Build a Healthy Diet as a Senior

Especially for seniors, having a healthy diet is extremely important.

As we age, our bodies change. It doesn’t mean we can’t be healthy and vibrant. It simply means we need to pay closer attention to our nutritional choices.

As discussed recently by Forbes, there are a few key areas seniors can focus on to stay healthy. We’ll cover a few of the most popular nutrients and how to get them here. Be sure to consult with your doctor or nutritionist to see what diet is best for you.

Let’s start with protein. Muscle mass can deplete quickly as we age, so it’s crucial to fill your diet with lean meats. If you’re not a fan of meat, you can also get protein from fish, eggs, milk, and whey powder.

The digestive system can also falter as we get older. A proper fiber intake can help with this, and also aid in metabolic function so we absorb all other nutrients more efficiently. Whole-grain bread, fruits, and vegetables can provide the fiber you need. Getting enough fiber has also been proven to aid in metabolic function.

Older individuals tend to absorb less calcium, which means upping the intake may be the right move. Milk, cheese, and yogurt are great sources to choose from. For those who aren’t a fan of milk-based products, some cereals, sardines, and leafy greens are fine substitutes.

We hope you enjoy a healthy and nutritious diet that makes you look and feel amazing. Be sure to check back here with us for more content like this, and follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
