Here at the Council for Retirement Security, we take pride in helping our seniors get healthier — and what better way to do this than with National Play Outside Day?

This occasion brings together some of the best things in life. Physical activity and the great outdoors are two of them. But perhaps the best thing about this occasion is that it allows for family time.

This day falls on the first Saturday of each month. With spring approaching, it’s a perfect time to make it a regular tradition. You can enjoy time with your spouse, kids, or even grandkids. And when everyone is out getting fit together, it feels less like work and more like fun.

This highlights how time in nature can make us feel ageless and allow us to temporarily live without worry. Spending time outside offers a sense of freedom. It’s also been proven to boost energy levels, help reduce insomnia, and offer other health benefits.

Use this time to take a walk or a hike together, go bike riding, or toss the Frisbee around. It’s an ideal scenario to discuss how life is going, snap some family photos, and make amazing memories under the warm glow of the sun.
